[Under Makeup Review] : Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Suncream SPF50+ PA++++ – Some by Mi

Trial Duration: 2 days

Environment:

Day 1: Air conditioned room, tropical

Day 2: Non – AC room, tropical, humid

Current Skin Condition: Acne prone with dry patches

Like I mentioned on my earlier review, this sunscreen is almost invisible when it settled on my skin. Also, there is no flashback when I tried on different lights and flashes.

Just a quick idea on how I used this under makeup — first I washed my face using a very light and unscented cleanser (Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash), then without toweling, I just let my face drain some excess water followed by a pea size amount of Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer (this is also unscented and does not contain any strong ingredients). I also put a very small amount of QuickFx Eye Lift Cream for extra moisturizing under my eyes. Once fully absorbed (after around 15 minutes, making sure that it will have very little interaction with the next product), I used around 1/3 teaspoon of Truecica Mineral 100 Calming Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ all over my face and let it settle down.

After around 15 minutes, I started applying my makeup. I don’t usually use concealer under eye and very rare on my active acne and hyperpigmentation. However, for this test, I did to see how well it will hold it.

In here, you will see that I put a concealer under my eye and one on my forehead. The brand that I used is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. I tapped the concealer a little bit to even out and cover whatever needs coverage. Then I followed it with a pump of L’Oréal Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Foundation using a brush. Using this sunscreen, I did not see the need to add another pump as like I mentioned earlier, it is not tacky and is almost invisble. Therefore, my foundation went smoothly covering my face sufficiently.

After that, I pat my face with very light powder (Clean & Clear Essentials Face Powder) just to remove some extra shine from the foundation.  Then lastly, a little bit of Maybelline Fit Me Blush on the cheek and chin.

Immediately after this, I noticed that my makeup looks smooth, almost the same as if I did not wear anything underneath it. What I observed though is that my pores are less apparent this time. I did not see my makeup settled on my pores which has always been my case on my usual makeup routine (same makeup but different sunscreen). I don’t know what specific ingredient(s) that caused my pores to look less, perhaps Niacinamide? This I can’t point 100%. However, my guess is that it is very unlikely that my smaller-pore looks is due to its essence (which I mentioned in my initial review). Anyway, the smoothness is apparent.

Another thing I noticed about this sunscreen is that it did not make my makeup feel heavy. I feel my makeup is there but not heavier due to this addition. I’m comfortable wearing it and I never felt bothered by it.

After some hours (the longest for this test is 12 hours), my makeup is still intact. This is not usually my case especially when I am wearing other sunscreen or without any. This sunscreen helped my makeup stood longer. I remember not putting anything heavy but just a little tap of pressed powder on my T-Zone to even out the “dewiness” and that’s it.

After more than 5 hours

Take note that I tested this on two different days with different conditions (Day 1: Air conditioned room, Day 2: Humid, ventilated room), results are almost the same only the non-cold environment (day 2) made my skin a little more “dewy” – which I have no complain as it looks healthy and not greasy.

Since it is almost invisible to my skin, this sunscreen did not help with my peeling skin. It didn’t make it worse, just did not help hiding them. Though to be fair, there’s no apparent claim to help with this issue. I just thought that it is a nice things to have because of their 85% moisture essence claim. Anyway, it is not a down point.

Lastly, and I think very important to tell, no matter how I tried this product (with or without makeup), this is causing my face to break out. Every time I remove my makeup at night, I noticed that I get at least two pimples on different places. This is disappointing because they claimed that this sunscreen is good for sensitive and acne prone skin. I haven’t had a day that no pimple or aggregated clogged pores will show up whenever I use this.

To summarize:

  • This really works well under makeup as it did not “disturb” their original claims and properties.
  • It makes them hold longer.
  • They are invisible and does not feel heavy at all.
  • This will not make your dry patch or peeling invisible despite its claim that it has 85% Moisture Essence
  • It can trigger pimple and clogged pores to some
